Signature Strengths Journey – Lukas Goncalves (Year 11)
Responsibility – Lukas Goncalves
“Responsible and engaged students who are proud of themselves and their school”
Sounds good, but what does responsibility mean?
The first thing that came to my mind was:
Responsibility is the ability to be responsible, but what is the definition? So, I did some research.
The definition of responsible is – “Having an obligation to do something, or having control over or care for someone, as part of one’s job or role”
In our context, a student from Kirrawee ensures the environment around is safe for everyone to learn, grow and to be themselves. Taking care of those around you and uniting all the strengths in a KHS student.
Another important definition I found was:
“Being the primary cause of something and so able to be blamed and credited for it – morally accountable for one’s behaviour”
I thought this definition was important because of the words “morally accountable”.
Morals are our judgement of what is right and wrong within our community. So, we do what is right and help others do what is right. We are accountable for that, so we must answer to ourselves and not by stand whilst wrongs are committed.
You are responsible for your grades. You are responsible for your homework, for studying for something. You are responsible for your own attitudes towards yourself and others and each one of us are responsible for creating a safe space for all.
This means, to have the responsible ability to interact positively in Kirrawee High with each and every person. Therefore, making all of us to be proud of the school and ourselves in a safe environment.
