Open Boys & Girls Knockout Tennis
Kirrawee High School was well represented again this year at the Regional Round Robin Competition for Tennis.
Both Boys and Girls teams had to play pool matches to be able to compete for a semi-final berth in the top four shoot-out.
The boys had to play three pool matches against Sydney Boys High School (the reigning Regional and State Champions), Menai High School and Caringbah High School.
After a very tough first match up against Sydney Boys, the team rallied and beat both Menai and Caringbah convincingly to make the semi-finals.
Coming up against Endeavour Sports High School the boys played fantastically and found their rhythm and won 6 straight matches to make the major final against Sydney Boys High School.
The boys put in a big effort but unfortunately were not triumphant against a very strong and well drilled team from Sydney. It was great to see their improvement from day one and the coach of Sydney Boy’s High even commented on how well Kirrawee Boys stepped in the final.
The Boy’s team, lead by team captain Luke B (Yr12) and including Cameron M (Yr11), Lloyd H (Yr10) and Maxim G (Yr8) represented the school in the spirit of the game and have done the school proud! 2nd in the Region is a great result! Well done Boy’s!
The Girl’s had two pool matches and had a hard fought win against Canterbury Girls up first with the win awarded on games.
Next up was Woolooware which was another super close game and the Kirrawee Girl’s lost on games this time.
So it came down to the final pool match between Canterbury and Woolooware which Woolooware won on games! Being this close there was a count back on games won and the girl’s from Kirrawee made it through to the semi-finals!
First up the girl’s took on Sydney Girl’s High School and had the round of the tournament with a clean sweep of all matches.
The final saw us against Menai who unfortunately were too good on the day for us and the girl’s were second for the second year in a row in the region.
The Girl’s did the school proud with their determination and teamwork! Well done Sarah R (Year 11), Lauryn V (Year 11), Ashleigh S (Year 9), Madeleine G (Year 8) and Kirsty S (Year 8).
