Legal Studies Downing Centre Excursion
On October 23 and 28, students of legal studies had an amazing opportunity to visit the Downing Centre in Sydney City, observing the daily operations of the courtroom and experiencing the real life court cases occurring in both the Local Court and District Court. Students observed a range of matters ranging from minor issues such as public order order offences to serious indictable offences such as aggravated assault.
The excursion was organised by the Rule of Law group, which specialises in running tours for legal classes. As a result, the group also arranged a Q&A meeting with a magistrate where students were able to ask questions and interacted in a less formal manner. The magistrate provided an excellent insight into the world of law and students definitely found the experiencing engaging and thought provoking.
