We are excited to welcome Celina Menon from Paris to our faculty this semester. Celina is our new French Assistant and has proven to be a very valuable addition. Celina has been working with our senior students to develop their skills, especially with their pronunciation. Yr 9 and 10 have also benefitted speaking practice in small groups during their class time. We look forward to welcoming Yumiko who will arrive next week to assist the Yr 12 students prepare for their upcoming HSC speaking exam.
Then Language Assistant program as Kirrawee is unique and offers our students to develop their knowledge not only of language but also about the culture and contemporary views from a variety of regions in France and Japan. Last semester we were very fortunate to have Akihiro working with us. He certainly experienced Australia in all its forms, from drought, to fire, to floods and finally the toilet paper wars. Such a unique experience for our assistants as well. The wonderful families that host our assistants always enhance the experience. This year we are most appreciative of the Hendra family (who continue to host despite no longer having students at KHS) and the Parnell family. Without the support of our local families, we would not be able to offer these additional enriching opportunities to our students.

Finally, a few photos of the Year 8 Japanese dress up day. It is always fun to watch the kids enjoy themselves. The photos went with a personal identity card that the students wrote in hiragana about themselves. The Yr 8 French classes meanwhile used the green screen to put themselves in France and wrote about themselves in French. Let’s hope that one day soon we can get back on the planes and take the real deal photos in front of the Eiffel Tower or the Asakusa Shrine.
