KHS Debating News
Recently, the Kirrawee D team, consisting of Alice Van Tol, Tobie Lennon, Tabitha Legg and Tegan Sandilands, were successful in making it to the Sutherland Shire debating Grand Final Junior division, debating through 4 rounds against private, catholic and state schools.
In the grand final they were up against Inaburra in a tough debate.
The topic was that STEM should be the new focus subject in classrooms. We were the negative team arguing against a thought-provoking, affirmative team. The mayor of the shire and many other attendants watched our debate. We had some strong points and rebuttal and so did they. It was an unlucky loss. The adjudicators stated ‘it was by a whisper’.
Our ability to argue logically allowed us to progress through the competition against challenging and experienced teams.
We look forward to next year where we will try again and hopefully bring home the massive trophy.
