Year 11 PDHPE – Biomechanics in Action

Mrs Blanch’s year 11 PDHPE have been studying the four principles of Biomechanics including Motion, Balance and Stability, Fluid Mechanics and Force.  Last lesson they discussed techniques for absorbing force when catching.  Today they finished off the term with an activity to demonstrate the importance of absorbing force to reduce the chances of injury.  Students worked in pairs throwing an egg underarm to one another.  Gradually increasing the distance between them, required more force to be applied to the egg and more techniques needed to absorb the force.  The successful students learnt very quickly the importance of needing to decelerate the egg – reducing the impact.  Congratulations to Elliot Harding and James Walker who demonstrated great skill and techniques to be the last students standing in the attempt to keep the egg intact.
