JOHN SKENE | 2014-2019

LEARNING FRENCH IN HIGH SCHOOL (2000-2005) SET ME UP TO BE A LIFELONG LEARNER OF CULTURE, DIFFERENCE, AND INSTILLED AN APPRECIATION OF BEING A GLOBAL THINKER. LANGUAGES ARE ENCOURAGING AND EMPOWERING AND GAVE ME THE DESIRE TO TRAVEL THE WORLD.
LEARNING A LANGUAGE HAS HELPED ME UNDERSTAND THE BREAKING DOWN OF LANGUAGE AND KNOWLEDGE TO ASSIST IN MY AREA OF TEACHING: SPECIAL EDUCATION. THIS IS A KEY SKILL IN SUPPORTING THE DIVERSE LEARNING NEEDS OF ALL STUDENTS.

SINEAD MAGUIRE | 2003-2008

LEARNING FRENCH WAS SO ENJOYABLE DURING HIGH SCHOOL THAT I DECIDED TO STUDY IT AT UNIVERSITY, AND NOW I TEACH FRENCH AT A HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL. STUDYING FRENCH HAS OPENED UP MANY GREAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR ME LIKE WORKING, STUDYING AND TRAVELING OVERSEAS. BEING ABLE TO UNDERSTAND FRENCH HAS MADE ME MORE CONFIDENT TO TRAVEL TO FRANCOPHONE COUNTRIES AND IT HAS ALLOWED ME TO MAKE FRIENDSHIPS WITH FRENCH-SPEAKING PEOPLE IN AUSTRALIA AND OVERSEAS. FRENCH HAS ALSO LED ME TO DISCOVERING NEW INTERESTS IN FOOD, FILM AND MUSIC THAT I WOULD NEVER HAVE APPRECIATED IF I DIDN’T STUDY IT AS A LANGUAGE!
