Year 7 Camp 2019

From Wednesday to Friday of Week 4, Year 7 embarked upon their first camp as Kirrawee High School students. The camp was held in Narrabeen’s Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation and from the outset both students and staff alike were buzzing with enthusiasm and excitement!

Our students were encouraged to forge new friendships and build positive social relationships, whilst continuing to contribute to the long, time honoured tradition of Kirrawee High School’s outstanding reputation – and they did not disappoint!

Over the three days, Year 7 completed a variety of activities with new, diverse and inclusive friendship groups, encouraging each other to complete difficult tasks such as abseiling, raft building, high ropes courses, initiative and team building games and canoeing. The camp leaders at the Sydney Academy made multiple comments to staff members for our cohort’s politeness, cooperation and their continual commitment to participating in all of the activities with enthusiasm.

The camp would not have been possible without the participation of some outstanding staff members who deserve a huge congratulations and thanks for their time and commitment to providing a memorable experience for our newest group of students. Thank you to Mrs Kenehan, Mr Brown, Miss West, Miss McEntrye, Mr Olovich, Mr Punzet, Mr Yu and Mr Hunt for their time and unrelenting enthusiasm over the three days. A special mention to Mr Hunt for his now famous Trivia/Bingo night on Wednesday night and to our resident KHS DJ Mr Yu for his ability to work a crowd whilst playing some absolute fan favourites on Thursday night.

Before our weary students and teachers hopped on the buses to make their way home, they were reminded of what they had learnt on camp, and the new friendships that were forged. These memories and lessons will further develop the values and traits that will strengthen the positive experiences they will encounter in the coming years at Kirrawee High School.
