Year 12 Biology Kickstart

A kickstart workshop has been organised for Yr12 Biology.
In this workshop, students will learn about an inherited disease-sickle cell anaemia and its genetic cause. Aligning with inquiry-based learning, students will investigate the genetic cause of sickle cell anaemia with a case study. Their job is to determine whether a child has inherited the disease.
Students will perform
- DNA extraction, lego- based polymerase and chain reaction activity.
- Paper-based restriction enzyme digest and Gel electrophoresis.
Cost: $30.00 per student
When: Wednesday 19th June 2019
Where: University of Sydney
Students will meet their class teacher at Kirrawee station by 8.30am. Students are to purchase an opal ticket or use an opal card, we will return to Kirrawee station by 3pm where students will be dismissed by their class teacher.
Full school uniform must be worn including KHS school shoes.
