Year 12 Dance

It’s that time again when we wish our Year 12 Dance students a big CHOOKAS as they head into their HSC Dance Practical Exams.

This year their exams fall on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 August in week 4. The girls will each complete 80% of their HSC Dance Elective course over the two days. External markers will visit the school and each student will be assessed on their:
Core Performance 20%
Core Composition 20%
Major Studies 40%

There were some changes to some of their assessment due to Covid 19. The girls have preserved by training hard and spending many hours in the studio. We wish them all the best.

This year we were lucky enough to have Calita Murray an Aboriginal Liaison Officer and Aboriginal Elder come and collaborate with Tameika Fitzgerald one of our HSC Dance students. Tameika developed a work exploring Tradition Aboriginal Dance vs the Fusion between Modern Contemporary and Aboriginal Dance. Aunty Calita was able to pass down her knowledge of Australia Aboriginal heritage, culture and movement to Tameika and together they choreographed a very unique and moving work. Thank you to Calita for her time and for supporting the Dance Department at Kirrawee.

All of our Dance Students have shown great dedication, determination and focus over the last few months as they have had to learn large chunks of choreography and content remotely over videos, zoom and google classroom. It sure was a challenge but one that they all conquered with a smile on their face. I am extremely proud of each and every dance student. Kirrawee is lucky to have them as part of the Dance Department.
